Steve Klepetar

almost from the first

when I decided to love

you, when I came across

the graveyard toward your

bed and crows spat their

anger at the wind

you knew my brother’s

wife, knew her hands

and hair, the long wind

along her alleyway

knew her figure and her ground.

I would marry you because:

    1.   The day was good

    2.   A small bee danced among the clover

    3.   My light was broken

    4.   You had spilled all the Chilean wine

    5.   And yesterday I carved this list onto my forearm with a twisted paper clip

Steve Klepetar’s work has appeared in nine countries, in such journals as Boston Literary Magazine, Deep Water Literary Journal, Antiphon, Red River Review, Snakeskin, Ygdrasil, and many others. Several of his poems have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. Recent collections include, Speaking to the Field Mice (Sweatshoppe Publications, 2013), My Son Writes a Report on the Warsaw Ghetto (Flutter Press, 2013) and Return of the Bride of Frankenstein (forthcoming from Kind of a Hurricane Press).
