Descend

I drink the agony

of exile from a grail

descen-

            ding

                  down a vale

as bones that have ceded

flesh to sand

                   drum

and fire

          water-logged

sound

songs pinned on leaflets

on toes awaiting the joyride

on the hunch of approa-

ching wind

There is silence that scares

the dead here

into wakefulness

silence that casts one

to soak in the voice

of muse

where a poet

finds company

                      Air does not weigh down

        the odour of mourning

on a byway

                 wrecked with the pain

of grievance; my absence

The mind of memory

                                holds all the images

brass-bound in a mirror

                                    It clouts

all the light

and

all the darkness

of a life lost
